Minutes of Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption
Catholic Women in Action (CWC)

  • President Debbie Lazorik opened the meeting with the pledge of Allegiance.  Nancy Matheny opened with prayer.
  • Secretary’s report by Nancy Funk for January was approved
  • Treasurer’s report by Barb Ritchie for January was approved.  The large number of donations from the envelopes was noted.
  • Sunshine report – Janet Steinel gave Carol Antill a box of cards from the gift shop.
  • Book club –  The February book is “Connecting with God in the Garden”.  The author of the book, Cecile Smith, will be coming to the meeting.  The meeting will begin with comments on the January book since the January meeting was canceled due to the cold weather.
  • Outreach committee
  • The blood drive will be held on March 10.  Our main concern will be signing up people to give blood.  There will be a flyer in the bulletin.  Volunteers can also sign up on line with the Red Cross.
  • We will begin selling tickets for the quilt raffle on April 1.  The proceeds from the raffle will go to a fund for upgrading the kitchen.
  • Superbowl subs are ready to go.  Volunteers for the funeral lunch on Saturday can slice tomatoes and lettuce.  There are about 120 orders.  Volunteers are set to hand out subs after the masses.
  • We discussed the bus trip to the Byzantine church and Mother Angelicas Center.  Debbie will talk with Father Mike about celebrating a mass at the church.  David Wendt could possibly give a tour of the church.  We are looking at late spring/early summer for the trip.
  • We are also looking at a bus trip to the Sight and Sound production of The Road to Damascus.  Lunch, shopping and possibly a wine tasting at a local winery may be included.  We are looking at fall for this trip.
  • Movie night was discussed.  We would like to have it in March as part of the National Women’s History Month.  We voted to show Dorothy Day’s movie, Entertaining Angels.  March 23 or 30, were suggested as good nights for a movie.  We will coordinate it with the youth group who meet on Sunday nights.

The meeting was adjourned.  There will be no meeting in March due to Ash Wednesday.  The next meeting will be April 2.
