Minutes of Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption
Catholic Women in Action (CWC)

  • President, Debbie Lazorik, opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Shelley Medley opened with prayer. 
  • Secretary’s report by Nancy Funk for July was approved. 
  • Treasurer’s report by Barb Ritchie for July was approved. 
  • Some of the money paid for Father Mark’s lunch bill has been reimbursed.
  • Sunshine report – cards will be sent to Greg Simms whose wife died.  Also a sympathy card to Jennifer Simmons on the death of her mother. 
  • Book club will meet on August 26.  The book for August is “From Breath to Air”.
  • Outreach committee – Father Edward informed us that our parish is number 1 in the United States for number of boxes of joy that we collected last year, 594.  This year we are aiming for 650.  We will be making boxes on September 22.  The Box of Joy drive starts on September 26.  The school will begin on September 11 so that it won’t interfere with their Cancer drive.  CWA voted to   donate $250 for box of joy.  Shipping is $9 per box.  Our donation will not go for shipping. 
  • Volunteer Opportunities
    • Diane Rauch met with us.  She is the new director for OCIA.  She is requesting help with providing food, sponsors, prayer partners, set up and clean up.  The 1st class will be September 21.  She is also requesting that we share our paper products with OCIA
    • Shelley Medley checked into the COR model for women.  There was much discussion about how to bring it about.  We are looking to begin perhaps in the new year.  We will discuss more at the September meeting.
  • Parish Picnic – Jill discussed some details for this year’s picnic.
    • The insert for the bulletin is done. 
    • It was confirmed that paper products will be donated.
    • Jill sent around a sign up sheet for set-up and clean-up.
    • Parish council wants to be involved in the picnic.
  • Janet  Schilling checked with IGA on pricing for catering funeral meals.  Those requesting a funeral lunch will be given three choices.
    • Price for Ham, potatoes and beans is $4.50
    • Price for Chicken, potatoes and beans is $4.86
    • Price for Sandwiches is $4.39. 
  • Ann Marie Lowers has quilt material for making baby blankets and clothes.

The meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting will be September 2.
