Catholic Women in Action (CWC)

  • President Debbie Lazorik opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance, and Nancy Matheny opened with prayer.
  • Secretary’s report by Nancy Funk for August was approved.
  • Treasurer’s report by Barb Ritchie for August was approved. 
  • Sunshine report – cards were requested for Tim Beaver, who is moving to the county home and Carol Miller asked for a card for her sister, who is in the hospital.  Mary Beth Browne sent an e-mail with an update on her lymphoma, which is almost gone
  • Book club –  The September book is “Catching the Wind”.   The next book club meeting is September 24.
  • Outreach committee –
  • The Box of Joy project is next.  Reminder that we will make boxes on September 25 at 6:00.
  • The bus trip is cancelled since there were not enough who signed up.  We may try again in the spring.  We are leaving the $50 deposit with the bus company for the next trip.
  • Kitchen update.   The kitchen committee is going to meet with the Finance Committee on September 17 to ask for their help.  They are skeptical of whether they can help at this time.  The church needs a new organ which could cost $500,000.  We may need to look at applying for grants.
  • September 11 – Giving Society will meet with the bishop.  This will be an elegant reception and will be catered by Cornerstone.  Mass is at 5:00.  Set up will begin at 4:00 for tables, drinks and wine glasses.  Joe Schmidt is in charge.
  • Sarah Laskowski reminded us of America Needs Fatima on October 11.  The rosary will be said at noon in front of the armory.
  • OCIA requested that we furnish paper products for their Monday classes.  Betsy Lang has been providing these up til now.  We approved funding for them for this year.
  • Update on funeral lunches.  We will not be using Hucks anymore.  Instead, we will purchase supplies for sandwiches from IGA.  Also, Debbie reminded us that if asked, the price for the lunches is $5 per person. 
  • Officer elections are in November with installation at the December mass.  The term is for 2 years and begins in January. Anyone interested in being an officer should let Debbie know.
  • Parish picnic – most of the planning is done.  It will take place on September 28.  Mass will be at 4:00 with a potluck dinner starting at 5:00.  The main course will be chicken from IGA and ham from Hucks.   Father Edward confirmed that we will need a server, cantor, and eucharistic ministers for the mass.  CWA will be responsible for table cloths, drinks, and chips.
  • We have been asked to take care of one night of Bingo in the spring.  We will receive the money collected.
  • Reminder: October 8-10 is the Rosary Congress.

The next meeting will be October 1.
