Catholic Women in Action (CWC)

  • President Debbie Lazorik opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer. Everyone introduced themselves to our new members.
  • Secretary’s report – one correction was noted.  Jennifer Simmons’ father died, not her mother.  Nancy Funk will correct.  The minutes for August were approved.
  • Treasurer’s report by Barb Ritchie for August was approved.  Barb noted that we have not received the money expected from the Kof C for Father Mark’s funeral lunch.
  • Sunshine report – cards will be sent to Abby Schwendeman, Sue Kerns’ family, Father Gallagher, Father Tornes, and Father David Gaydosik.
  • Book club will meet on September 23.  The book for September is “Remarkably Bright Creatures.”
  • Outreach committee –We will be making boxes on September 22 for Box of Joy.  The Box of Joy starts on September 26.
  • The Daily Bread Kitchen served 289 meals today. They have decided they need another team and are looking for a team captain.  They would like to increase their presence on Facebook and are asking us to go on it and encourage our friends to go on it as well.  More presence means more volunteers and contributions.  Debbie will send a notice to the whole group about this.
  • Signage project – Debbie and some others met with Ashley Pennock from the Sign company.  They identified areas that need signs.
  • October 22 will be donor mass and dinner at the church. It will be catered, but we will need volunteers for set up, serving and clean-up.  Sheila Lovett will oversee.
  • The rosary rally on the 1st Saturday in October is usually at the Armory, but they are busy this year.  They are looking for a new place.  The Rosary Congress will be held in Wintersville, October 3-10.
  • Sherry Payne mentioned that the Right to Life will have a tent at the county fair over Labor Day weekend and a float in the parade.
  • Parish picnic – Jill discussed some details for this year’s picnic.
  • A sign-up sheet and volunteer sheets were passed around
  • Christal shared an idea for raffling baskets at the picnic.  There will be 3 baskets for children and 1 adult basket.  The adult basket will focus on items for hospitality honoring St. Vincent de Paul since the picnic takes place on his feast day.  Donations for St. Vincent de Paul will be collected at the picnic.  These include towels, sheets, utensils, cleaning supplies, and laundry detergent.  There will also be a sign-up sheet for donations of larger items such as furniture.  Christal will make the baskets.

The meeting was adjourned.  The next meeting will be on October 7.

Respectfully submitted,
Nancy Funk
