Minutes of Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption
Catholic Women in Action (CWC)
- President Debbie Lazorik opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Deb Cody opened with prayer.
- Secretary’s report by Nancy Funk for October was approved.
- Treasurer’s report by Barb Ritchie for October was approved.
- Sunshine report – Deacon Lee had surgery on Monday. Irene Cain will be having surgery on her shoulder. Theresa Hushion had a liver transplant. Patti Ionno may have to have foot surgery. Our prayers are with all of them.
- Book club – The November book is “The Funeral Ladies of Ellerie County”. The next book club meeting is on November 19. It was changed to the 3rd Wednesday of November due to Thanksgiving.
- Father Edward has requested a library group to organize the library. Barb, Penny and Crystal all volunteered.
- Outreach committee – The Box of Joy deadline was extended through the weekend. 471 boxes are filled. The goal was 550.
- There will be a reception on November 9, following the Marriage renewal mass at 12:00. Request is for a few to set up tables and make drinks.
- We have been asked to help with the Breakfast with Santa after the 8:00 and 10:00 masses on December 7.
- Melanie’s family will decorate the social hall for Christmas after the 10:00 mass at the end of November.
- Wednesday, December 3, will be the Christmas dinner and installation of officers at Mass. There will be a light meal catered after the mass. Janet and Judy will decorate the tables.
- The school will not be sponsoring the pie fundraiser this year. We have been asked if we would like to sponsor it. We agreed to do it. Shelley Medley will handle collecting the forms and money.
- We went over the calendar for 2026. The Vice President is responsible for keeping it up to date.
- We will give Christmas gifts again this year to the 3 priests and a seminarian.
- If we decide to get a speaker, Deb Cody suggested a seminarian she knows who is a family counselor.
- Debbie gave 3 special thank yous to people who helped while she was gone. Jill Wintucki for all the work she did on the parish picnic. Nancy Funk for taking the lead on the funerals and Ann Marie Lowers for following through with organizing the officer nominations.
- Ballots were passed out for the officers. Ann Marie announced the results of the election.

- Debbie discussed the sunshine ministry, which Carol Antill will continue to head. She suggested that there be a committee to help Carol with this ministry. This could include flowers and visits. Debbie will contact Carol about this. 3 or 4 have said they would like to be on this ministry. Nancy Matheny is going to send a card to Carol for her granddaughter, who has cancer.
- Debbie announced that Father Mike is officially retired.
- We need people to help water flowers over Christmas and Easter. Deb Cody, Sally, Patti, and Shelley volunteered.
- Cheryl asked for help for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. There are many people in desperate circumstances right now.
December’s meeting will be on the 3rd, which will be a mass and dinner. January’s meeting will be on the 7th.
