Minutes of Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption
Catholic Women in Action (CWC)
- President Debbie Lazorik opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and with prayer. Special mentions for speedy recovery for Father Mike and Father Mark.
- Secretary’s report by Nancy Funk for April was approved
- Treasurer’s report by Barb Ritchie for April was approved. Thank you notes were acknowledged. One was from the diocese for the priests’ lunch and dinner at the Chrism Mass.
- Sunshine report – A card will be sent to Father Mark.
- Caring Bridge has gift cards available. We will send one to Lora Offenberger to help in caring for her husband Scott after his fall. $100 was approved.
- A group card and individual cards will be sent to Maribeth Browne while she undergoes treatment for cancer. Her address is 116 Arborgate Dr., Marietta.
- Book club – The June book is “The Last Patient”.
- Outreach committee – we will be collecting bottles of laundry detergent from June 15 to July 15. Some possible recipients are the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the food pantry, the homeless shelter, the Gospel Mission. Note that the Gospel mission prefers the pods for easier distribution.
- Nancy Matheny mentioned that the fall bus trip needs to be promoted. The cost is $85 for the bus and ticket. Hannah Mcclinton will help Nancy make a flyer.
- Debbie will contact Lora about whether she wants to continue with the facebook updates.
- Summer calendar – we discussed whether to sponsor a church picnic. Suggested dates are August 10 or 17 at 4:00. Debbie will check with Father Edward and with Rusty Nesbith from K of C to see if they want to co-sponsor it with us. Some suggested locations are Masonic Park, the Fairgrounds, Gold Star, Reno School, and VFW. A committee set up to organize the picnic include Annemarie Bell-South, Jill Witucky, Hannah McClinton, and Christal Shokri.
- Movie night has been moved to the fall and winter months.
- Review of May crowning. Debbie wants to put it in writing for future events. Some suggestions for improvement were bigger or more baskets, adjusting the height of the statue, and scheduling with the school to encourage their participation.
- Kitchen upgrade. The committee for the kitchen includes Debbie Lazorik, Sue Lambert, Penny Rose and Sheila Lovett. Currently, we only have 1 bid. Gillards will do stainless steel cabinets and counters for $50,000. Waiting on Brett Rauch for a bid that will include also the floors and wall.
- It was noted that the freezer needs to be cleaned out.
- The next meeting will be July 2 at the Betsy Mills club.
