Minutes of Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption
Catholic Women in Action (CWC)

  • President Debbie Lazorik opened the meeting with the pledge of Allegiance and with prayer.
  • Treasurer’s report by Barb Ritchie for June was approved. 
  • Debbie read an e-mail from Mary Beth Browne thanking the club members for their cards.
  • Debbie introduced Suzanne Schultz, executive Director of the Betsy Mills Club.  Suzanne gave each of us a free pass to the pool.  She introduced herself and gave a short history of the Betsy Mills Club.  In 2027 the 100th anniversary of the Betsy Mills club will be celebrated.
  • Secretary’s report by Nancy Funk for June was approved.
  • Book club –  The July book is “The Unlived Lives of Raymond Quinn”.  The next book club meeting is July 23.
  • Outreach committee – over 6000 loads have been collected so far for the detergent collection.  The goal is 8000.
  • Hannah made a poster for the bus tour.  It will be inserted in the bulletin.  Jill Wintucky mentioned that she has seen the program, The Road to Damascus, and that it is very good. 
  • Kitchen upgrade.  Currently we have 2 bids and will be getting a 3rd bid next week.  The newest bid was for $79,800 which is for Stainless steel cabinets, counters, new floors, ceilings and deep cleaning and painting the walls
  • Parish picnic – the committee looked into various venues and decided on the Fairgrounds Junior Fair Bldg.  There is plenty of room, good parking, a new playground, green space area for playing and is central in Marietta.  Father Edward has approved it.  We are looking at September 21 as the preferred date.  The cost is $700. The parish council and the Knights of Columbus have been asked to help with the fee and for meat which will be provided by the church.   The picnic will begin with mass at 4:00.  The main course will be chicken from IGA and ham from Hucks.  We will possibly include corn on the cob, if available.  The church will provide plates, chips, silverware and drinks.  Ann Marie is creating a gift basket for a door prize.  Sign up sheets will be available for numbers attending and dishes.
  • The next meeting will be August 6.

The meeting was adjourned.  Suzanne Schultz gave a tour of the renovations of the Betsy Mills club.
