Minutes of Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Women’s Club Meeting
February 1, 2023

  • The meeting was called to order by President, Jennifer Tinkler, followed by an opening prayer by
    Laura Riley and the pledge of allegiance.
  • Secretary’s report was presented by Penny Rose. Motion made by Nancy Funk and seconded by
    Janet Schilling to approve minutes with one minor change noted. Motion carried. Penny will be
    out of town from February 17 – March 2 and will not be able to coordinate funeral dinners.
    Nancy Funk and Debbie Lazorik will be the contacts. Penny will let rectory know of change.
  • Treasurer Melanie Fouss reported a balance of $5,097.29 with $6,692 collected to pay for Cross
    Catholic International Water Well. $6,000 was sent to CCI, leaving a balance of $692 in the
    “outreach” fund and balance in the general treasury of $4,405.29. Dish towels and dish clothes
    purchased for the kitchen and older ones donated to the Humane Society. Penny Rose made
    motion to approve report and Debbie Lazorik seconded it. Motion carried.
  • Sunshine report –please let Carol Antill know if you would like her to send cards to any
    parishioners.
  • Book Club Update. Next meeting is February 21 as Ash Wednesday falls on the 22nd. The book
    will be “Boy on the Edge”. Club celebrated their two-year anniversary and continues to do well.
  • Barbara Ritchie gave an update on the outreach committee’s efforts. Next proposed project
    with Father Mike’s approval is to begin collecting laundry supplies and personal toiletries. The
    supplies will be given to the local food pantries and the homeless organization. Once approved,
    announcement will be placed in the parish bulletin.
    o Barbara requested that the $692 remaining from the water well project be
    assigned a separate line item in the budget to use for postage and other
    expenses the outreach committee may incur. Debbie Lazorik made a motion to
    do so, and Sue Lambert seconded. Motion carried.
  • 2023 CWC Calendar. Jen Tinkler presented the CWC calendar. It was reviewed and changes
    were addressed. Laura Riley will update and present at the next meeting for approval.
  • Donut Sundays. This subject was readdressed at the meeting due to parishioner request. It was
    decided to hold off until May due to Lent. This will begin on May 7 and continue the first
    Sunday of each month. We will do both 8:00 and 10:00 AM masses.
  • Rite of Election Luncheon. Not certain of date (March 5 or 12). CWC will provide soup,
    sandwich and desserts for 200 people from the Southern diocese. More details to come.
  • Chrism Mass Dinner for priests. Tuesday, April 4th. CWC will setup, serve and cleanup. It will be
    catered by Theo’s.
  • Chrism Mass reception, Tuesday, April 4th following mass. CWC will provide cookies for
    reception.
  • First Communion Retreat, April 29th 9 AM – 1 PM. The CWC has been asked to provide bagged
    lunch for children.
  • The new dishwasher will arrive on Friday. New electrical and plumbing updates were needed.
    Training will be required.
  • The Betsy Mills Club has asked to use the refrigerator in our kitchen to store chicken pot pies
    and then bake the pies in our ovens on February 15-17. Difficult to commit when we do not
    know when we might need the kitchen for a funeral dinner. Perhaps the K of C could be a backup in case of funeral dinner. Jen Tinkler will talk with Betsy Mills.
  • Debbie Lazorik suggested that the CWC establish clear guidelines moving forward for the core
    events on our calendar. Some of which include the fall festival, priest dinners, etc. This will be
    addressed at another time once the group has a chance to think about it.
  • Discussion centered around a parish calendar. The consensus was that the parish needed a
    central calendar for all groups, i.e. the school, CWC, K of C, etc. Would this be feasible?
  • The current CWC officers’ terms will be ending soon. A nominating committee needs
    established to secure new officers. Jen Tinkler will check the CWC bylaws for term length.

The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 1, 2023.
