Treasurer’s report was given by Melanie Fouss. With two new donations since last month and an expense of $150 to Boxes of Joy, the balance is $4,755.54.

Sunshine report was not given as Carol Antill was not in attendance. Jennifer will follow up to see if Carol is still interested in serving in this position.

New Business:

  • Debbie Lazorik and her committee for the Basilica Book Club (BCC) presented a draft for member review (copy attached for file).
    • First book selected is The Temperament God Gave You – The Classic Key to Knowing Yourself, Getting Along with Others, and Growing Close to our Lord. It will be facilitated by Cecilia Cottrill.
    • The committee requested feedback to the following:
      • Types of books. The group agreed any book spiritual in nature which did not conflict with our Catholic beliefs would be acceptable.
      • Is January 27, 2021, too soon to begin? The group felt the date was reasonable and the committee will roll out next week via the resources referenced on the draft, i.e. St. Mary School, Steubenville Register, parish website and Facebook page, and in the weekly bulletin.
      • Process for facilitating discussion. Consensus was it would be up to the individual facilitator as to how they would like to promote discussion.
      • Should the CWC sell the book? It was decided that the group would purchase 10-12 books for the first club meeting and give to those interested in participating. Depending on interest, the group could purchase the books for the next meeting and take bulk orders. Moving forward, the membership would select the books for each month. If you have suggestions, please forward to Debbie.
  • Fundraiser for St. Mary School “Subs for the Super Bowl”
    • Three subs will be offered (turkey, ham and Italian). Jennifer is working with Gordon Food Service to obtain costs. She will present at the January 6th meeting so we can determine costs and begin order process. The subs will be preordered and distributed after mass the weekend of the Super Bowl. We need volunteers to help assemble the subs on Saturday, February 6 and volunteers to distribute orders after masses.
  • Adopt a Seminarian
    • The members agreed to send a card and donation to a seminarian. Melanie will check records to see what was given in the past and repeat the donation.

Jennifer adjourned the meeting and the members decorated the social hall for Christmas. The next meeting is Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

Respectfully submitted,
Penny Rose
