• President Debbie Lazorik opened the meeting. Our intern, Christopher McGurn, offered the prayer.  Everyone introduced themselves to Christopher.  He told us a little bit about himself.
  • Secretary’s report by Nancy Funk for June was approved
  • Treasurer’s report by Barb Ritchie was approved
  • Sunshine Report – a number of people were reported to have recent ailments.  Carol will send them cards.
  • Nancy Matheny reported on the details for the September 19 bus trip to the Museum of Catholic Art and History.  The museum will give a reduced price for groups of 25 and over.  The cost for the bus will be $1615.  With 40 people the cost for the bus and museum would be $45 per person.  It was decided to promote that amount for each person.  The club will absorb any amount due. The trip is open to members of the CWA, and their families, and then to other churches and Parkersburg High School. We will leave from Lowe’s parking lot at 8:00 am.  After the tour, we will have lunch at Spaghetti Warehouse at each individual’s expense.  Checks for the trip can be sent to CWA at the church.  Teresa volunteered to create posters.  Debbie will put a notice in the bulletin.  Registration needs to be in by September 5.
  • Book club – the next meeting will be Wednesday, July 24.  July’s book is “The Rocking Chair Prophet”.  Anyone who hears of a book that would be good for a book club can send the information to Debbie or Nancy.
  • Outreach Committee
  • The Box of Joy collections start on October 5.  On September 26, we will meet at the church to make up the boxes.  We usually have about 500.
  • The Fall festival will be held on October 27.  The theme this year is Oktoberfest.  Teresa is the liaison with the school.  She reported that there will be a beer garden on the playground, a craft show in the small gym, and a bouncy house.  The CWA  agreed to host the dinner, which will last from 12 to 5.  A live auction will follow the dinner.  Debbie asked for volunteers to help plan the meal.  A planning meeting will be held in August.  There was a question about who would pay for the expenses of the meal.  It was noted that in the past, the expenses were deducted from the profit which will go entirely to the school.
  • Funeral lunches.  There is a charge account with IGA to pay for meal supplies.  Also, we will continue to support Hucks for some of the meals.  They were very helpful with the last funeral which had a late meal request. Teresa suggested they may give us a deal if we use them exclusively.  But it was decided to continue with IGA as well.  Debbie read a thank you note from Bernie Lyons for the nice funeral lunch we provided.
  • Debbie passed around an announcement about the Washington County Right to Life seminar on July 20.  Joseph Schmidt will talk about Understanding End of Life Decisions.  It will be held at the O’Neill Center. 
  • To encourage ideas for activities at our meetings, it was suggested a monkey survey be set up on-line. One possibility was to invite women from the Women’s Giving Circle to come tell us about their program.
  • Sarah Laskowski requested that we participate in the America Meets Fatima rosary which will be held October 12 in front of the Armory.
