- President Debbie Lazorik opened the meeting with prayer and the pledge of Allegiance.
- Secretary’s report by Nancy Funk for July was approved
- Treasurer’s report by Barb Ritchie was approved.
- The final payment for the bus for the trip to Columbus is due on September 9.
- Sunshine Report – a thinking of you card will be sent to Linda Caldwell as she deals with her husband’s illness
- Book club – the next meeting will be Wednesday, August 28. The August book is “Carmel of the Little Flower of Jesus – The Beautiful Garden”.
- Outreach committee
- The Box of Joy collections is on schedule to start on October 5.
- Since there is no longer a health ministry at the church, the outreach committee will look into having a blood drive with the Red Cross. Janet Steinel will check with the Red Cross about an appropriate time after checking with Father Mike.
- Other health programs will come under the responsibility of the outreach committee. Debbie mentioned that there are two bags of health ministry supplies in the closet. They will be kept for future needs. It was suggested we ask Physician Assistant students from Marietta College come in to do blood pressure testing at some time.
- Judy McCoy mentioned that some of the drawers in the kitchen are falling apart. Also, we need to clean out the cabinets some time during the winter and to begin looking into pricing for new cabinets.
- Anyone interested in being on the Outreach committee should contact Janet.
- Debbie read a thank you note from the Emge family for providing a funeral lunch for Mary Emge.
- The Fall festival will be held on October 27. Theresa reported that arrangements have been made for a beer garden on the playground, a craft show in the small gym and music by Randy Schrider. The menu will include noodles donated by St. Henry’s. Prices have been set at $15 for chicken and two sides, $10 for bratwurst and two sides and $50 as a family price for a whole chicken. It was suggested we have aprons for all workers. There will be no pre-sales.
- Checks for the Columbus bus trip can be sent to the church or put in the offering. Dee is sending announcements to all the neighboring churches. An insert will be put in the bulletin the weekend of the 18th. Nancy Matheny made reservations at the Spaghetti Warehouse. They request we order from the group menu. We have reservations at the museum. Nancy will get permission for us to park in Lowe’s parking lot.
- A diocesan priest dinner will be held on August 29. They are expecting 70 priests with 2 bishops. It will be catered. Debbie is checking on pricing from Parkhurst. We will need volunteers for set up, serving, drinks and cleanup. Set up is at 1:00 on Thursday and the dinner is at 5:15.
- Starting in January, we will begin to have various presentations at the end of our meetings.
- August 22 is open house at the school. CWA will have a table with a tri-fold presentation of our activities.
- Linda McMichael presented a retreat opportunity on November 15 and 16 at St. Bernards parish in Beverly. Immaculee, who wrote the book “Left to Tell”, the story of the Rawandan genocide, will be there to speak and sign books. The retreat runs from 4 – 8:30 on Friday and from 7:30 to 12:00 on Saturday. Contact Linda (740-525-3532) if you would like to attend. There is a cost which is dependent on the number of people in a group.
