Nearly 140 images of Angels can be found in the Basilica. Large Angels bearing torches and palm branches are stationed in the sanctuary and around the nave, and Angels greet the Blessed Mother in the relief statue of the Assumption in the apse. Cherubs adorn the capitals of each column, and images of Angels can be seen in nearly every stained glass window.
The Angels call us to recognize that this is holy ground. This is where the Holy Liturgy takes place, and where the Most High God dwells in the Blessed Sacrament.
