Welcome

I am very happy to welcome you to our Basilica web page. We have been praying together, working together and rejoicing together since 1838 here in Marietta.
 
Parishioners of the past achieved a great deal, and we are called upon to achieve much for the parish and our community in the future. One of the greatest achievements, and one that we must constantly strive to build upon, is “family.” We must sincerely strive to be a “parish family” – loving one another and growing together in prayer and mutual support. The parish community is where the mission of Jesus Christ comes to life and continues day to day.
 
We have a beautiful renovated Basilica and an outstanding Catholic School; yet the parish is not buildings - the parish is first and foremost a people – a people called together by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit. Our parish exists not for itself, but for the mission of Jesus Christ. The parish is called to teach, and witness the Gospel of Christ to our children, to those preparing for deeper Sacramental life, to those alienated from the Church and to those not active in the parish community.
 
All parishioners are called upon to recognize their individual talents and gifts and to use those talents and gifts in one or more of the many and various ministries of the parish for the building up of the Kingdom of God.  
 
As you browse this web site, the Basilica is here to serve you. You are most welcome here at the Basilica of St. Mary of  the Assumption. Your presence in the parish would give us yet another facet of the “Living Body of Christ.” May God bless you and give you the grace to feel very much at home here. Mass for the Anniversary 
of the Opening of 
St. Mary Catholic School


Bishop Jeffrey Monforton will celebrate Mass on for the 120th Anniversary of the founding of St. Mary Catholic School, on September 8, 2016 at 12:05 PM in the Basilica. (Bishop Watterson of Columbus originally dedicated the school on September 6, 1896.)
 
Diocese of Steubenville 
Marriage Enrichment Day


The Diocese of Steubenville will be holding a special Marriage Enrichment Day to take place on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at St. Mary Basilica. The event features a Mass offered by Bishop Jeffrey Monforton, a Keynote Presentation and a Luncheon. Childcare will also be available. Mass for the Day of Prayer for Peace in Our Communities


In light of recent incidents of violence and racial tension in communities across the nation, the US Catholic Bishops have launched a Day of Prayer for Peace in Our Communities. Bishop Jeffrey Monforton will offer a special Mass on September 9, 2016 at 9:00 AM in the Basilica to pray for peace.
 
Pilgrimage to Italy
 

Fr. Tom will be leading a pilgrimage to Italy 2 January - 13 January 2017. The pilgrimage is being organized through Catholic Faith Journeys. Registration is ongoing! Click here for more details.

Perpetual Help Devotions
 

Mother of Perpetual Help Devotions are one of the special devotions held at the Basilica. They are celebrated every Monday evening at 6:15 PM. Learn more here.

St. Mary Catholic School
